Traveling with Curiosity Your Way
If you landed on this post, you probably agree with us that the best trips begin with curiosity. Not the kind that sends you racing to check landmarks off a list, but the kind that slows you down enough to ask questions, notice the little details, and leave room to be surprised.
Exactly what that looks like is up to you.
My husband, for example, likes to spend six hours in any given museum… he’d probably stay for ten if they didn’t close, and I wasn’t around to remind him that I’d been ready for a snack for the past three hours (assuming I hadn’t already wandered off to the nearest bar).
The funny thing is, we’re usually chasing the same story from different directions.
Maybe he spends the afternoon learning about the region’s history while I’m chatting with a cheesemonger at the local market. Then we meet for dinner and suddenly the two conversations connect. That painting we saw earlier explains the ingredients on the table. A dish we tasted suddenly makes more sense after something we learned at the museum.
That’s the kind of curiosity we love most. Not collecting random facts, but discovering how food, history, people, traditions, art, and everyday life all connect.
So travel journaling comes in handy. That’s exactly why we created this Food Travel Journal template. It’s the same one we use to plan trips, keep track of our discoveries, and make sure the little moments that matter don’t disappear once we’re back home. (Truth be told, it’s also how we remember half the stories we share with y’all here.)

How to Use Your Food Travel Journal
Before Your Trip
Start building cultural context before your trip. Use your journal to make a list of dishes you want to try, producers you’d love to visit, local ingredients you’re curious about, and questions you hope to answer once you arrive. (If you need a little inspiration, check out our guide on building cultural context before your trip.)
During Your Trip
Bring your travel journal with you. Keep track of memorable meals, conversations with locals, food tours, cooking classes, markets, wines, and all those little discoveries that don’t quite fit in your camera roll. Those are often the memories you’ll treasure most.
After Your Trip
Revisit your notes whenever you’re planning your next adventure, recreating a favorite recipe, or simply reminiscing about a place you fell in love with. You might be surprised by how many details you would have forgotten otherwise.
The more curious you are, the more memorable your travels become.
So pack this journal, ask lots of questions, try something you’ve never tasted before, and don’t be afraid to wander a little. You never know which meal, market, or conversation will become your favorite travel memory.
Happy travels, y’all! ❤️
